Best Way to Lose Weight

The question that is on the lips of most people who are overweight is “what is the best way to lose weight?

There is a lot of hype and far too many untruths surrounding the weight loss industry. As with all things, a large proportion of the information available is “money” driven and it is almost impossible for the average individual to discern between what is the truth and what is simply selling a product or an idea to make money?

Obesity has reached epidemic proportions world wide. There are over 1000 books written on the subject of weight loss, almost 83 million web sites on the subject on Google and many new and existing dietary regimes being advertised on a daily basis. Despite all of this the obesity epidemic is increasing rather than decreasing. So what is going wrong? Why is it so difficult to find and stick to the best way to lose weight?

As with all things, there is not a simple answer. However there are one or two basic issues here that we need to be aware of. First and foremost there is not one diet that suits all. Your best friend may be able to eat like a horse and never put any weight on, whereas you may put weight on if you so much as look at a piece of chocolate cake.

Some people are obsessed with the idea of being able to lose weight fast and forget that fast weight loss usually results in fast weight gain. Cutting calories doesn’t work as your metabolism slows down to match the reduction in food intake. It is also impossible to lose more than 2 lb a week and any more weight loss will be water or muscle. Fast weight loss is a fallacy and is the cause of many failing to lose weight successfully.

Weight loss foods and drinks may help you to lose weight initially but this is not the best way to lose weight and certainly isn’t a long term solution. People who successfully lose weight choose a sensible well balanced diet using natural foods, not processed slimming products. They can then continue with that diet once they have reached their target weight without making any further major adjustments

Contrary to popular opinion all fat isn’t bad for you nor is it responsible for putting on weight. In fact their are some fats known as MUFAs (Mono Unsaturated Fatty Acids) that actually help you to lose weight quick and are essential for your health and well being.

It is easy to get confused with the information out there especially if you don’t understand the terminology and the science behind the information you are reading. If in doubt hire a weight loss guru, but make sure you check their credentials carefully before you hire them. Make sure they really know their stuff and can guide you to choose the best way to lose weight for you personally
