Lose Weight
Lose Weight Today
Fat people in Herefordshire UK are costing the Health Service £46 m ($100 m) a year. The County Director of Public Health Dr Akeem Ali said “Obesity is the curse of modern life and the biggest single challenge facing health care in the UK”. He went on to say that we eat too much and we don’t take enough exercise to burn off the calories. We live hectic lives and don’t always take the time to cook a healthy meal from scratch. A new tool kit called “healthy Weight, Healthy Lives” is now available as an incentive to help people to lose weight today.
One of the problems seems to be that parents don’t recognize that their children are overweight and they underestimate the amount of unhealthy and fast food consumed. Only 38% of adults know that obesity leads to heart disease and only 6% were aware that it contributes to cancer. It would appear that these reasons alone should be enough to encourage people to make an effort to lose weight today.
Parent need to take fuller responsibility for the health and well being of their children. Too many parents today do not know how to make a meal from scratch, and many will use unhealthy snacks as rewards and boredom fillers. They are also more concerned about their children becoming anorexic than becoming fat. When will they wake up to the fact that their children need to lose weight today.
Too many children in this modern age spend far too many hours sitting watching the television or playing computer games. We need to get our children active. More emphasis needs to be put on daily exercise. Parents are now taking their children to school in the car rather than encouraging them to walk. This is partly because of time factor for those parents who work but also parents fear of allowing their children to walk to school alone. But if these children are to lose weight then there have to be some changes.
The question remains as to how we change the mind set of the current generation of parents. How do we encourage them to prepare healthy nutritious meals for their children? How do we encourage them to become more active themselves as an example to the rest of the family? How do we instill in them the need to take responsibility for their own health and the health of their children? It is vital that they listen and ensure that their children lose weight today before their weight becomes a serious health issue.
