Many individuals want to know how to lose weight, but don’t really know how. Why are people overweight in the first place? Bad eating habits is the number one reason why so many people are overweight. But changing those eating habits to lose weight can be very challenging.


Trying to lose weight is difficult for many people. They either do not want to stop eating or they do not want to exercise. The best way to lose weight is still a combination of exercise and diet but not necessarily. A lot depends on your body composition.


Do you want to know how to lose weight easily? I can honestly tell you it is not easy for many people to lose weight. Still, there is good news for the lazy couch potato; you can still lose weight watching TV and snoozing. However the cost is that you have to eat less or healthier so long as you burn more calories than you consume.


New research published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism reveals that dieting alone is equally effective at reducing weight and fat as a combination of diet and exercise—as long as the calories consumed and burned equal out. The research also indicates that the addition of exercise to a weight-loss regimen does not change body composition and abdominal fat distribution, debunking the idea that specific exercises can reduce fat in targeted areas (e.g., exercise to reduce fat around a person’s midsection).


“It’s all about the calories,” said Dr. Eric Ravussin of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, La., and senior author of the study. “So long as the energy deficit is the same, body weight, fat weight, and abdominal fat will all decrease in the same way.”


However there may be a query over the fact that exercise encourages you to burn fat by converting it into lean muscle.


We are genetically programmed for storing fat in a particular pattern — and that this programming can’t be easily overcome. So if you are genetically predisposed to store fat in the hips all the exercises that are designed to reduce your hip size may not work if you are calorie neutral. You have to be calorie negative, that is you burn more than you consume.


So how to lose weight gets a little more complicated. It is not just about diet and exercise. It is also about body type and fat predisposition to areas of your body. It is also important to be aware that each body type may need to eat different combinations and ratios of foods in order to lose weight
